YouTube Free ends, Needs Credit Card to Play Videos

The Popular video sharing site YouTube’s Free Ride is over. Google has introduced subscription based service channels to get more revenues for their product.

Google said in the blog post about their Pilot program,

Starting today, we’re launching a pilot program for a small group of partners that will offer paid channels on YouTube with subscription fees starting at $0.99 per month. Every channel has a 14-day free trial, and many offer discounted yearly rates.

Currently, YouTube has only a small number of  partners for this subscription based pilot program. Some of the partners that participate in the pilot are UFC Select, TNA Wrestling, National Geographic Kids and You can get the full list of paid channels here.

Google said that more paid channels will be added later in the Pilot program. Like Sesame Street will be part of this pilot channel program that will include full episodes of the PBS series.

The Subscription based channels will be pointed out by the green color Dollar symbol when you click that you will get the information about trail period and the amount you have to pay for the channel to subscribe them. If you attempt to play any paid channel videos, the preview of two-minute clip will be shown to you with the option to pay for the subscription. . Once you subscribe from a computer, you’ll be able to watch paid channels on your computer, phone, tablet and TV, and soon you’ll be able to subscribe to them from more devices.

The paid channels are Geo-locations restricted. If the particular channels are restricted for your country, you can’t watch the videos from that channels and you will get an error message like this ‘This video is not available in your country’.

For Indian users, there is no paid channel is available yet. I have checked most of the paid channel and none of them has played the videos and only showing Sorry for that error message.

Previously, YouTube has introduced the new 144p Quality Videos for slow internet connections users.
